Our goal is to make your child's first school experience a positive one that will provide a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning. Our purpose is to provide a planned program for children appropriate to their age and within a Christian environment. Experiences are provided that meet children's needs and inspire learning in all developmental areas - physical, social, emotional, and intellectual.
First Methodist School's Young School (ages 1-2) and Preschool (ages 3-4) programs prepare children for Kindergarten and beyond through interactive, hands-on learning. Thematic units, developed over our school's successful history, provide learning opportunities through our early childhood curriculum. Preschool students attend music, gym, Spanish, and computer weekly. Young school students (2 years old) attend music and gym weekly. Chapel service is held weekly for 2 through 5 year olds.
Our Kindergarten class is open to children who have turned 5 on or before September 1. Kindergarten class is offered Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are incorporated into our curriculum to prepare students for the next level of their academic careers. Phonics/reading, math, science, and social studies are taught by a certified teacher in a small class setting. Kindergarten students attend music, gym, Spanish, computer, and Chapel weekly. Our kindergarten student to teacher ratio will not exceed 15:1 in order to provide more opportunities for one-on-one instruction. Kindergarteners participate in several special FMS traditions such as the Kindergarten Circus and the Mother's Day Tea.
